It would be really nice to have a button/menu option for toggling Mark Occurrences rather than having to go to the preferences window every time you want to turn it on/off.

For me, maybe once or twice a week. I usually find it distracting so I keep it off, but every now and then it's handy to turn on. The Java perspective has a toggle button and keyboard shortcut but of course it only works if you're editing a Java document.
